This was totally Jim Pridgeon’s idea. He was asked to propose an artwork for the traffic island about 2 blocks North of Seattle’s Pike Place Market. He presented several concepts, sort of flash cards, to the committee. They kept saying “Next!” until he showed his last one, a kinetic umbrella sculpture. They accepted the idea and Jim asked me to help. We designed it together and I did the project management for fabrication and installation. The piece is named in honor of Jim’s mother.
