Each WIGGLE POST sculpture has 3 sparkly bulb shaped shrouds.  Each shroud is a two piece, resin “clamshell” which surrounds and conceals the central pipe structure.

12 patterns are required, each with a unique shape.

Resin Shrouds fit in areas with no rods.

My patterns are sort of like boat hulls - a series of ribs with a skin.  Strips of glass mesh cover the ribs.  A paint coat of White Hydrocal stiffens the mesh. Several layers of hot mud build up the surface.

Applying the glass chips and sparkles to inner mold surface

Glass chips complete.  Inner & outer mold sections assembled & ready for pouring.

Pattern on a pattern board and first outer mold with plaster backer shell.

Urethane shroud castings for small WIGGLE POST ready for fit up.

Detail of top shroud, initial fit up. November 26, 2009.   Collars are a bit too wide, but this is just a test.
